Lucknow: In a festive cheer-inducing move, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced extended liquor sale timings for Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. As per the notification issued by the Excise Department on Saturday, liquor shops across the state will remain open for an hour longer, till 11 pm on both December 24th and 31st.

This decision comes after the liquor lobby pushed for extending the current 10 am to 10 pm sale time. However, Excise Minister Jai Pratap Singh made it clear that such extensions would only be granted for special occasions.

"While we understand the demands of the industry, we also prioritize responsible consumption and public safety," the Minister stated. "Extending the sale time on these festive nights is a measured decision to cater to the increased demand while ensuring responsible celebrations."

The move is likely to be welcomed by partygoers and businesses alike, especially considering the upcoming holiday rush. However, it is important to note that the extension applies only to the sale of liquor. Bars and restaurants remain subject to their regular closing times.

Citizens are urged to celebrate responsibly and prioritize safety during the festive season.
