In a move that marks a significant shift in India’s agricultural welfare delivery, Maharashtra has made Digital Farmer IDs mandatory for accessing subsidies and schemes — including the PM-KISAN scheme — starting January 1, 2025, for new applicants. The mandate will extend to all state and central schemes from April 15, 2025, making Maharashtra one of the first Indian states to operationalize the AgriStack initiative at scale.

What is the Digital Farmer ID (Kisan Pehchaan Patra)?

The Digital Farmer ID, officially called the Kisan Pehchaan Patra or Kisan Card, is an Aadhaar-linked unique identity that integrates a farmer’s personal details, land records, crop information, and banking data into a single digital profile. It is designed to enable seamless access to over 100 agricultural schemes, ranging from PM-KISAN's ₹6,000 annual income support, to crop insurance, Kisan Credit Cards, and state-specific loan waivers like the Mahatma Phule Karj Mafi Yojana.

How to Apply for a Digital Farmer ID in Maharashtra

Farmers can apply for their ID through three official channels:


Step-by-Step Guide: Online Application

  1. Visit the Portal:
    Go to mhfr.agristack.gov.in and click “Farmer” > “Create New User” or “नवीन शेतकरी नोंदणी”

  2. Aadhaar Verification:
    Enter your Aadhaar number for eKYC. Use the OTP sent to your linked mobile number. Create a secure password.

  3. Login & Start Registration:
    Log in using your credentials or OTP and select “Register as Farmer”

  4. Enter Personal Details:
    Fill in your name, DOB, gender, address, and social category (SC/ST/OBC/General)

  5. Add Land Ownership Info:

    • Choose Owner (or upload lease agreement if not the owner)

    • Input Khasra/Gata number from 7/12 extract (Mahabhulekh)

    • Verify land details fetched from the database

    • For joint ownership, ensure one co-owner’s land extent is defined

  6. Upload Documents (PDF or JPEG):

    • Aadhaar card (mandatory)

    • 7/12 or 8A land extract

    • Aadhaar-linked bank passbook

    • Optional: Ration Card/Family ID/lease document

  7. Aadhaar e-Signature:
    Re-enter your Aadhaar and OTP to complete the e-sign

  8. Submit & Save:
    Save your Enrollment ID/Acknowledgment Number. Download the filled form as a PDF

  9. Track Application:
    Use Aadhaar or Enrollment ID to check your status on the portal (Pending/Approved/Rejected)

  10. Download Farmer ID Certificate:
    After approval (usually in 7–15 working days), download your Farmer Registry Certificate from the portal

Integration with PM-KISAN and State Incentives

The PM-KISAN scheme, which provides ₹6,000 per year in direct support, now requires Digital Farmer ID for new applicants in Maharashtra. The state also offers ₹15,000 per camp and ₹10 per approved registration as incentives for local officials to accelerate sign-ups.
